About Jürgen Engel and Thomas Busse
Jürgen Engel is a multi-award-winning architect. He studied architecture at Technische Universität Braunschweig, at ETH Zurich, RWTH Aachen and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MITMIT Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Cambridge, USA. From 1982-86 he worked at Schneider-Wessling Architekten in Cologne, and from 1986-89 as office manager at O. M. Ungers in Frankfurt. In 1990 he went freelance in a partnership, and since 2009 he has been sole owner of KSP Engel with responsibility for the approx. 300 staff members in his practice. Jürgen Engel considers himself a multidisciplinary designer.
Thomas Busse studied architecture at the universities of Darmstadt and Florence. In 2004-09 he was the Design Director for KSP Engel in Beijing and helped establish the office. The Beijing National Library and the Nanjing Art Museum are the first two major cultural edifices KSP Engel built in China. Since 2014 he has been Team Head Competitions, based in Frankfurt. Since 2017 he has been in charge of the firm’s international business; in 2018 the Shenzhen office was opened. Today Thomas leads an international team that is working on numerous exciting projects.
